Levo Evo - Big travel, massive performance!

Levo Evo - Big travel, massive performance!

Mat Clark

When looking at what e-bike to buy, it’s very easy to get bogged down in motor numbers, battery size, peak power, torque—blah, blah, blah.

But what really matters? Is it a good bike?

In the case of the Levo Evo, it’s not just a good bike—it’s the perfect bike. I could have written my review of the Levo Evo within three corners. I set it up, got on it, and could hit turns at full speed immediately. No learning, no stopping to make changes—just pure speed, grip, and confidence from the get-go.

It’s as if the engineers at Specialized have been poking around in my little brain, downloading my desires for a DH bike that I can pedal uphill!

There are a few reasons why this bike feels so good on the downhills. Firstly, the suspension travel has been boosted to 180mm on the front and 170mm on the rear, with a new linkage that corrects the suspension characteristics for the longer stroke shock and intended bike-smashing use.

On the front, we have the new RockShox Zeb, which comes packed with new features, including adjustable bottom-out, revised chassis stiffness, improved damping, and more tunable adjustments—all coming together to provide a fork that delivers confidence and speed with ultimate control. This fork is the absolute business!

The 170mm of rear wheel travel is controlled by the all-new Vivid Air, which essentially mirrors the feeling provided by the Zeb at the front. I was running flat pedals, and I felt like I could really drive the back end of the bike into drops and roots, promoting grip in every instance and adding to my already sky high confidence levels.

The Butcher DH tyre now features a radial casing, as well as super-soft compound rubber and reinforced sidewalls. With all this extra travel and extra speed, you really need a tyre that hooks up—and hook up it does! The grip levels were crazy. The speed I had to ride at to get the tyre to break traction was mind-blowing. This bike is FAST!

There are obvious parallels to draw with the Orbea Wild and the Unno Mith, which are both in the same long-travel category, but with the Levo you are getting all the benefits of Specialized’s attention to detail and flawless quality.

Couple this with the stunning motor power, adaptable battery system (840Wh, 600Wh, 250Wh), adjustable geometry, and the very best aftersales care on the market, and the Levo Evo really does stand out as the king of e-bikes.

Don’t believe me? Come and try one yourself with our dedicated demo fleet, or test the Levo Evo, Levo, and Levo R back-to-back at one of our demo days!

As a little side note - Existing Levo 4 owners can upgrade to longer‑travel Evo with the optional Levo 4 EVO shock extension. This aftermarket upgrade allows riders to convert their Levo 4 to EVO travel, delivering increased confidence and performance for big, technical terrain.

A 230mm eye‑to‑eye x 62.5mm stroke rear shock and a 180mm travel fork, or a long‑travel air spring/travel conversion kit is required.
