Selecting the correct Hope brake mount
Share
Selecting the correct disc brake mount can be confusing with a mind blowing range of mount standards and rotor sizes.
So lets break down how to select the correct mounts with speed and ease!
Mount types
IS Mount
There are 4 mounting types. Older bikes (pre 2004) tend to have what would be called IS (international Standard) mount (see picture)
These mount types bolt the calliper onto the frame horizontally either straight into the calliper or into an adaptor to take your IS mount frame to a (more modern) Post Mount standard.
For Hope these are numbered A F N R B D E G and J (Please refer to the chart below for more detail)
There is a 20mm difference in the rotor size these mounts fit depending on weather you fit them to the front or the rear of your bike. For instance the F mount is for a 180mm rotor when fitted to the front fork and will be 160mm when fitted to the frame.
Post Mount
Post mounts are found on most modern mountain bikes and consist of a vertically mounted adaptor that means you can scale the rotor size up and down very easily.
With these mounts you will need to know what size rotor your bike can use without requiring an adaptor atall. You can do this by consulting the owners manual, reading the size off your current rotor or by taking some basic measurements from your frame or fork mount (see picture)
