Levo Alloy Gen 4 10 Minute Test
Mat ClarkTis the season to get Loamy!
The last few fern leaves cling onto their wilted chlorophyl depleted limbs as the winter takes hold, laying a carpet of decay that breeds new loamy possibilities in a most beautiful, entropic display of colour.
What im trying to say is its LOAM SEASON baby!
And what better way to celebrate than hopping on a full fat Ebike and smashing out some laps of a fresh loamer.
A loam lap wonder machine
Being the quintessential spoiled brat when it comes to riding nice bikes I was building the bike eyeing up the spec thinking "thats an entry level fork" and "I've never tried those brakes" and "not sure of those tyres" but within 5 mins of riding the bike it was quite obvious this bikes rips! Forget the spec. It works!
The brakes work great! the tyres are brilliant (way better than the previous generation), the gears are perfect and the frame, motor, battery, handling are all top notch. And all for 5k. Pretty impressive stuff!
I set the bike up just how I like it. Low BB, long chainstay, slack head angle ready to go downhill very fast! And that it did! Lap after lap I was getting faster and faster, more and more confident and the bike just delivered.
Did I feel the weight of it? Yes. Did it make a difference? Not on the 20 second tracks I was riding. I can imagine on a longer more G force heavy bike park track, the weight will be more of a factor but for hitting corners in the woods over and over, who cares!
A spec surprise!
I was skeptical about the spec performing but I was wrong. They say dont judge an alloy Levo by its cover and you shouldn't. The spec just works and then when you mash your mech into a rock its not going to break the bank to replace it and lets be honest the running cost of an E-Bike can be eye watering!
The suspension felt very controlled and useable. The bike could certainly do with a stiffer fork and the lack of adjustments could be a down side if you are anywhere with some serious gnar but out in the loamers it felt great! No complaints!
The brakes were the most surprising and proof for me of just how good brands entry level products have become. The brake feel is perfect, power is ideal and the control is spot on. Granted they arent as powerful as a Maven but sometimes thats a good thing. On wet slippy trails over the winter do you really want to have snappy over powerful brakes?
