2026 Specialized Epic 9 Expert
Proper XC Speed Without the Price Tag Shock
The Epic 9 Expert is where things get really interesting.
You’re getting the same frame, the same race-bred geometry, and a build that’s genuinely capable of lining up on a start line, but in a package that’s far more accessible. It’s fast, efficient, and far more capable than most riders will ever fully push.
If you want a true XC race bike without going full halo build, this is a seriously strong option.
FACT 11m Frame : The Real Heart of the Bike
Same frame as the Pro, same DNA as the S-Works.
The FACT 11m carbon chassis delivers a lightweight, efficient platform with 120mm of travel and refined kinematics that minimise energy loss and maximise forward drive.
It climbs like you’d expect from an XC race bike, but with a level of control and composure that suits modern, more technical courses and real-world riding.
RockShox SID Select+ Suspension : Simple, Effective, Fast
No Flight Attendant here, but honestly, most riders won’t miss it.
The SID Select+ fork and SIDLuxe Select+ shock deliver a lightweight, efficient suspension setup that’s easy to set up and reliable over long rides. You still get a 3-position system, controlled via TwistLoc, so you can firm things up for climbs and open it up when the trail gets rough.
It’s a more traditional setup, but one that works really well.
SRAM GX Transmission : Tough, Wireless Performance
GX Eagle Transmission brings wireless shifting to a much more accessible level.
It’s not as light as the top-end kits, but it’s tough, consistent, and shifts cleanly under load. Perfect for riders who want performance without worrying about fragility or constant tweaking.
Roval Control SL Wheels : Carbon Speed Where It Counts
You still get carbon wheels here, which is a big deal at this level.
Roval Control SL rims paired with DT Swiss 370 hubs give you a fast-rolling, responsive setup that keeps weight down while still being durable enough for regular riding.
Hookless rims and modern widths help maximise tyre performance and grip.
Brakes & Finishing Kit
SRAM Motive Bronze brakes offer solid stopping power with good modulation, more than enough for XC racing and aggressive riding.
The finishing kit keeps things simple and functional, with alloy bars and stem, a reliable X-Fusion dropper, and a comfortable Body Geometry saddle.
2026 Specialized Epic 9 Expert : The smart choice in the range
You get the same race-winning frame and geometry as the top models, paired with a dependable, no-nonsense build that delivers speed, efficiency, and capability without unnecessary cost.
Perfect for riders getting into XC racing, upgrading to a modern platform, or anyone who just wants a seriously fast bike that works day in, day out.

Efficiency Under Power:
- Optimized anti-squat and damping stabilizes pedaling inputs.
- Active suspension maintains traction on rough climbs.
- Reduced energy loss from bob or unwanted motion.
- Momentum maintained when terrain gets rough.
206 Grams Faster
Specialized didn’t cut weight in one place, they removed it everywhere. The result is the lightest full-suspension XC frame ever built; faster acceleration, sharper response, better control, and more speed per watt.
The specific weight savings compared to Epic 8.
- Front Triangle: -110 g
- Main Pivot: -15 g
- Seat Tube: -17 g
- Rear Triangle: -37 g
- Linkage and Hardware: -27 g
External SWAT Box
Storage when you want it, lighter when you don’t.
Integral Top-tube Shock Mount
Optimized structure with continuous fiber paths increase strength and reduce weight.
Size-specific Seat Tube Layups
Variable wall thickness and shaping optimized for weight, strength, and stiffness.
The Missing Link
Swing link and ultra-strong and light hardware boosts stiffness while saving 27 grams.

Leverage Curve Explained
Early Stroke to Sag — Pedaling Support
Reduced leverage rate at sag increases support, improving pedaling efficiency and traction.
Mid-Stroke — Bump Control
Matches Epic 8’s proven curve through the bump zone, maintaining control and momentum as terrain gets rough.
End Stroke — Bottom-Out Control
Mirrors Epic 8 at end stroke, managing big impacts and resisting bottom-out.
