By obsessing over every fiber, every ply, and every dimension, the engineering team eliminated 18 plies, cutting 72g without sacrificing durability. It started with localized spoke reinforcement, stripping away unnecessary material in lower stressed zones, while increasing strength where it was needed. Then, after nine months of relentless refinement—tweaking widths, ply overlaps, fiber angles, and grades— a layup that maximized performance at the absolute minimum weight was achieved.

Four months of relentless testing with our Specialized Factory Team riders and staff led to a lighter rim tape and upgraded valve stem, shaving off an additional 9.6g. This meticulous engineering and obsessive attention to detail delivered a 998g wheelset with valves and tape—beating our original weight target by 52g and redefining what’s possible in XC performance.
